Washing knitwear is quite a painstaking process, especially when it comes to things made using natural thread. To ensure that such an element of outerwear as a hat does not fade, does not stretch, and generally remains wearable after washing, certain rules must be observed. Which ones? Our experts will tell you about this.
Knitting hat washing technology
Any knitted elements of clothing must be washed extremely delicately, respectively, machine options are not suitable, since the thing after such a “procedure” can not only lose its shape, but also become completely unsuitable for wearing. Your attention is drawn to detailed instructions that will help you wash your knitted hat accurately and efficiently.
Choosing the right product
For washing knitwear, it is necessary to use only gentle detergents that are suitable for delicate care. It can be a washing powder for wool fabrics or a washing gel product: such products gently affect delicate materials, and their detergent particles do not get stuck in the fibers. If the item is not very dirty, you can do without baby or bath soap, but only without the content of dyes, since they can get into the material.
ADVICE. If the knitted hat needs to be washed urgently, and there are no necessary detergents at hand, use a simple and effective method – hair shampoo. It will not only help to remove all dirt, but also make the threads of the material from which the thing is made softer. Be sure to check that the shampoo contains no aggressive additives (such as silicones) or essential oils.
The washing process
Consider in detail the process of proper washing of knitted hats (this technology is also suitable for scarves):
Fill the deep container in which the product will be cleaned with warm water (if the hat is woolen, the water temperature should not exceed 35 0 C, otherwise the thing will simply “sit down”). Pour the selected detergent into the water and dissolve it thoroughly.
Carefully lower the knitted hat into the prepared water. It is not necessary to leave it for soaking – with prolonged contact with the detergent product, the fiber structure of the material can change irreversibly.
Gently RUB the item with your hands. Do not try to apply too much effort so that the threads of the material are not damaged. If there is too much stain on the hat, try cleaning it with a soft sponge or cloth made of natural fabric.
Slightly wring out the product and rinse it in clean water several times (the temperature should be identical to that used during washing – sharp temperature changes will lead to deformation of the knitted item).
Take the washed item out of the water and gently wring it out without stretching or twisting it – just squeeze it lightly on several sides.
ADVICE.If you want to wash a hat with a pompom made from natural fur, you will have to carefully open it – fur elements of clothing are not subject to washing.
Knitted hats should not only be washed delicately, but also properly dried. Standard options in this case are strictly contraindicated. Do not hang the product on a rope, dry it in the sun or near heating devices.
We recommend drying the product only horizontally, preferably by placing it on a flat surface (for example, a table) and previously covering it with a cotton towel or a thick, but moisture-absorbing cloth. To speed up the drying process, you can provide fresh air to the room (just open the window in the room in the ventilation mode).
Finally, a couple of valuable tips regarding the features of washing knitted hats:
If the product is made of synthetic material, you can try to wash it with household appliances. For this purpose, use a special bag. Choose the most delicate mode. In this case, the spin function must be disabled.
If the item of clothing is too dirty, it is allowed to pre-soak it in cold water using a small amount of table vinegar.
If the knitted hat is made with the addition of wool threads, do not use enzyme powders in any case. Just one such care procedure is enough to spoil the thing.
In order not to deform the cap during the spin process, it is better to get it out of the water by holding both edges (so as not to stretch). Lightly squeeze the item from several sides, gently roll it into a roll, putting it first on a towel. This will immediately remove excess moisture, and the product will not stretch.
